Final Year Project - Silverlight

I've always been interested in Maths. To the point where I wanted to integrate something mathematical along with learning a new technology for my final year project at university. I had been studying Software Engineering and somehow I wanted to combine the development of a piece of software along with a new technology and mathematics. After researching and creating test applications in multiple languages from tcl tk to ruby on rails, I decided that I would create a quadratics based learning environment in Silverlight.

I didn't concentrate my efforts on the design and layout of the application as this wasn't the purpose of the project. More on getting the key algorithms working in code. I started out with the 'Blank Canvas' as my test area, I thought if I could make an extremely diverse graph control then I would be able to use it throughout the entire application. I implemented it so it could be completely flexible (see the blank canvas section on the site) and also so I could fix it for specific pages, such as the examples displayed on the learn quadratics pages.

As a side implementation I wanted to create a friendly notepad where users could get hints, tips and try out specific equations. I made it so this could be turned off also so that students wouldn't be able to enter the equations whilst completing tests etc. Users can enter an equation and the notepad will then display a step by step working out of how the equation can be simplified.
